How it works
How does it all work?

I work as a ceremony designer and officiant, providing a highly personalised alternative to a traditional religious or civil service. The process is collaborative and detailed, focusing on your unique story and vision.

  1.  The Initial Consultation

The process begins with an informal meeting (in person or via zoom) or call. This is a crucial step to see if we are a good fit. I will ask about your story, your personalities, your values, and what you envision for your ceremony. This isn't just about gathering facts; it's about building a connection and understanding your uniqueness. It is also a chance to ask me questions, so it is good to think of those in advance. If you decide to work with me, I will take a 30% nonrefundable deposit and fix the date in my diary.

  2.   The Creative Collaboration

About 3-6 months before the date (as is necessary for celebration of life ceremonies), the creative process begins. I will take the rest of the fee and send you a detailed questionnaire. This will help me to get to know you further and gain an insight into your unique personality. Then we meet again, and I really drill into your story.

Based on this, I write a unique, custom script from scratch or from my own crafted template, depending on your choice of ceremony and package. This is a stark contrast to the standard, fill-in-the-blank script used by a registrar. You will have full approval over the script, with multiple drafts to ensure every word feels right.

  3.  The Ceremony Planning

I act as a guide and advisor throughout the planning process. I will provide support and can suggest readings, poems, and music that fit the tone of your ceremony.

I can suggest rituals that are meaningful symbolic acts, personal to you, like hand fasting, a sand ceremony, or a unity candle, and explain the significance of each.

I can advise on the flow of the ceremony, helping you with timings and coordination to ensure a seamless ceremony.

  4.  The Rehearsal (Optional but Recommended)

A few weeks or days before the ceremony, I can run through a rehearsal (this is mainly for weddings). This is an opportunity for you and any key participants to walk through the ceremony. This ensures everyone knows where to stand, when to walk, and what to say. It helps to alleviate nerves and stress on the day.

  5.  The Day

On the day of the ceremony, I arrive early to make sure everything is in place. I will liaise with key people and suppliers to make sure everything runs smoothly.

And, because your script is entirely personal, I will deliver a ceremony that feels intimate, emotional, and truly authentic to you and your story.
